I studied English for academic purposes (EAP) 4 and the Introductory Academic Program (IAP) at Deakin University English Language Institute (DUELI). I am currently studying Graduate Diploma in Psychological Science. I found the DUELI courses to be extremely helpful with my academics, especially writing essays and researching. I have always been interested in psychology, so I started researching accreditation in Australia and discovered Deakin's Graduate Diploma in Psychological Science is accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC). That's one of the reasons I chose Deakin. Because of the small class size, professors were able to explain and discuss everything in detail. Deakin's classes enable me to gain a deeper understanding of psychology and human behaviours through case studies that facilitate hands-on learning.

I chose Griffith because of the 'fast-tracked' nature of my degree compared to Canadian degree programs, its structure of focused learning starting in the first year, and the incredible value of scholarships offered to international students. No matter what questions you might have or difficult situations you may go through, you will never feel alone here.

In Australia, there’s such a huge focus on mental health. With psychology, there are so many career prospects. Work experience is quite rare for an undergraduate degree in psychology, and that really motivated me to apply to ACU, because I really wanted to get that practical industry experience. ACU also has smaller class sizes. I’d heard positive feedback about how this can lead you to communicate better with your lecturers and tutors and really build up that camaraderie with them, and that turned out to be true. I have made so many amazing friends, met so many amazing people and got so much insight. Setting aside all the experience I gained and how good it looks on my resume, it has been personally a very rewarding experience as well.

Griffith provided me with a new sense of hope. I started my new life and immersed myself in everything at university. I entered Griffith University through the Direct Entry Program – Griffith English Language Institute pathway. Studying English through the DEP has been one of the best experiences in my life and I have improved my English a lot. Through GELI, I have learnt how to lead a formal discussion group, improved my critical thinking, learnt research techniques, and how to write in formal English. DEP has helped me to strengthen my English skills which resulted in me being able to continue my studies in Psychology at Griffith University.
