“What attracted me was the university’s location in Port Macquarie. There’s so many beaches around… it’s fun to live on campus,” he explains.


Having previously lived in Canada, the climate was another key factor. “This is better because there’s no snow and no cold, it’s so warm out there,” he says, highlighting how much he values the weather and outdoor lifestyle.

What is student life like in Port Macquarie as an international student?

Town Beach is a popular beach just minutes from the city centre.


Port Macquarie is ideal for students who enjoy nature and outdoor activities. Beaches, waterfalls, and scenic walks are all within easy reach.


“You can watch the sunrise on the beach… beach and waterfalls is the best thing,” Saurav says.


He also highlights how accessible everything is, making it easy to explore nearby areas. Whether it’s a quick trip to the beach or a short drive to more remote locations, there is always something new to discover.


Wildlife is another unique aspect of life here. “We do see many koalas, kangaroos… I spotted two of the koalas by myself,” he adds.



Dolphins are also a common sight along the coast, adding to the experience of living in such a nature-focused environment.

Cost of living in Port Macquarie vs Sydney for students?

Compared to larger cities, Port Macquarie offers a more affordable lifestyle, which is an important factor for many international students.


“I would say it is affordable if you compare it to Sydney and big metro cities,” Saurav says.


At the same time, he notes that spending habits play a role, particularly when it comes to groceries and fuel. Understanding where to shop and how to manage expenses can make a noticeable difference.

“I would say getting good grades… last year, I got high distinction,” he shares.
