When Krishna began researching universities in Ireland, South East Technological University quickly made its way to the top of her list. “SETU was always in my list when I started my research,” she said. “I’m doing Computer Science, and I really liked the syllabus and modules. I was just interested from the start.”
After arriving in Ireland, Krishna discovered that her expectations matched reality. “The people are so nice here,” she said. “Just about everyone greets you — you don’t see that everywhere. It’s nice getting to meet people from around the world.”
Although she describes herself as an introvert, she’s made friends from different countries and feels supported by both her classmates and staff at SETU.

Krishna is studying for a Master’s in Computer Science (Enterprise Software Systems), a programme that focuses on hands-on learning. “The course is very practical,” she explained. “Everything we learn, we do in the lab. The professors are very helpful and ready to answer every question we have. The small class size makes communication easy.”
Having worked as a developer in India for almost six years, Krishna wanted to build on her professional experience with more advanced technical and enterprise-level skills. She appreciates that the course at SETU is designed to prepare students for the real demands of the software industry.

SETU’s supportive environment was one of the main reasons Krishna chose the university. “The international office is ready to address any issues we have,” she said.
She’s also proud to be studying on a scholarship. “I’m here on a scholarship called the SETU International Academic Excellence Scholarship,” Krishna explained. “It covers my whole tuition fees. Not many people are aware of it, so I think it’s a great opportunity for international students.”

Krishna quickly fell in love with Ireland’s culture and scenery. “This is a very nice place to be,” she said. “It’s full of natural beauty, and the people are so kind and welcoming. Even at the university, everyone is supportive.”
She was also pleasantly surprised by how inclusive SETU is when it comes to celebrating cultural events. “I never expected to celebrate Indian festivals here in Ireland, but SETU surprised me. We had a Diwali celebration with Indian food, dance, and so much fun,” she recalled.
These moments have made Ireland feel like a second home.

Moving from India to Ireland brought a few surprises, both in daily life and in education style. “In India, we have classes all day,” Krishna said. “Here, we have classes for two or three hours a day. It’s completely different.”
She also mentioned adjusting to the daylight hours. “When I arrived, it didn’t get dark until 9pm, but now it’s dark by 4 or 5. That surprised me too,” she laughed.
Despite the differences, Krishna enjoys how the flexible schedule allows her more time for self-study and exploration.
After finishing her degree, Krishna hopes to continue her career in software development — this time in Ireland. “I’ve worked as a developer in India for almost six years,” she said. “Once I complete my degree, I’d like to find a job here and experience the work culture [in Ireland].”
Her studies at SETU are helping her develop the skills and confidence to achieve that goal.
Krishna’s story shows why SETU is becoming a top choice for international students who want to study technology in Ireland. With its practical teaching, approachable professors, strong international support, and beautiful surroundings, the university offers both quality education and a welcoming community.
