For Ralph from the Philippines, studying nursing in Australia was both a dream and a challenge. Now completing his Bachelor of Nursing at Australian Catholic University (ACU) in Sydney, he has found a university environment that combines practical learning, strong student support, and an exciting city lifestyle.
From realistic nursing labs to exploring Sydney in his free time, Ralph shares what it’s really like to study at ACU as an international student.
Choosing a university abroad can feel overwhelming, especially when support and student wellbeing are major priorities. For Ralph, ACU immediately stood out during his search process.
“Studying in the ACU is already an achievement for me. Before coming here, I was looking for a different university. ACU stands out the most because they provide support as an international student.”
“I always look for support because I knew that moving here to Australia would be a big challenge for me.”
Having a strong support system gave him confidence when starting his journey as an international nursing student in Australia.

One of the things Ralph values most about ACU is how approachable and helpful the university staff are whenever students need assistance.
“If I have a problem or an issue regarding my studies, there's a lot of support, especially when it comes to going to ask ACU.”
“You can ask anything, and they will help you with any issues or problems you have. That's what I like about ACU.”
For international students adjusting to a new country, having easy access to academic and personal support can make a huge difference.
Hands-on learning has been one of the most exciting parts of Ralph’s nursing degree. ACU’s simulation labs allow students to experience realistic healthcare environments before entering actual hospital placements.
“It's really fun. Recently, we had our laboratory, and the setup is like a real hospital. So we were able to get to know the different equipment inside a hospital.”
These practical experiences help students build confidence and prepare for real clinical environments.
ACU North Sydney campus provides a pocket of peacefulness within a vibrant corner of Australia’s largest city.
Ralph also enjoys the atmosphere and facilities available at the North Sydney campus, especially the spaces designed for students to relax and study together.
“The campus itself, especially here in North Sydney campus, has a wide space where students can relax and enjoy.”
“They can also make a small group for study sessions and everything.”
The welcoming campus environment creates a balance between academic life and social connection.
Outside of university, Ralph enjoys exploring Sydney and experiencing everything the city has to offer.
“Here in Circular Quay, you can see the Opera House. And the harbourside, so it's very beautiful. It's amazing.”
“It always shocks me to see it every time I go here.”
For many international students, studying in Sydney is about more than education—it is also an unforgettable life experience.

Ralph believes ACU stands out because of its welcoming environment, diverse community, and strong student support.
“I think they would choose AC because of the environment. Also, the support system and the campus, they have really great campuses.”
“It's very welcoming. As I've said, as an international student, they're very welcoming and regarding their support system.”
“It's very diverse. I would say studying at ACU is a great choice.”
This combination of diversity, inclusiveness, and support helps students feel comfortable and motivated throughout their studies.
Studying nursing can be demanding, but Ralph feels that ACU encourages students to continuously improve and reach their potential.
“ACU will make you more competitive. They push you to your limits but in a good way.”
“And that's the one thing that makes me proud as an ACU student, they push me to the best that I can be.”
That encouragement has helped him grow not only academically, but also personally and professionally as a future nurse.
