Moving to another country to study medicine-related subjects is a huge step, especially when you are leaving behind your family, language, and everything familiar. For Manju from India, studying a Bachelor of Biomedical Science at Australian Catholic University

in Brisbane has become much more than just earning a degree. It has also been about independence, confidence, and chasing a dream she once thought she had given up on.

Why Study Biomedical Science at ACU Brisbane?

The iconic ACU Brisbane campus.

Manju always knew she wanted to work in the medical field. Although she briefly stepped away from that path, she quickly realised it was not what she truly wanted.

“I dropped medical field and I was really regretting. Why did I do that? I really wanted to study medical.”

Choosing ACU Brisbane helped her reconnect with that ambition. She says the university immediately stood out to her, not only because of the course itself, but because of the campus atmosphere and surroundings.

“The building structure is very ancient and very royal, I will say.”

For Manju, Brisbane also felt like the right place to continue her journey towards becoming a doctor.

Studying Biomedical Science in Australia as an Indian Student

One of the biggest changes for Manju has been learning how to live independently while studying abroad. Alongside university life, she has been balancing work, rent, and daily responsibilities on her own.

“I feel powerful here because I am earning. I’m dealing with everything all by myself.”

She explains that moving to Australia gave her confidence and helped her grow as a person. Living independently in Brisbane has made her feel stronger and more capable than ever before.

For many international students, studying abroad is not only about academics. It is also about learning how to manage life independently, meet new people, and adapt to a completely different environment.

Biomedical Science Labs and Practical Learning at ACU

One of the things Manju is most excited about is the practical side of studying Biomedical Science at ACU. Rather than focusing only on theory, she is looking forward to learning in laboratories and developing hands-on skills.

She believes practical learning is one of the most exciting parts of studying science at university because it allows students to experience concepts in real life instead of simply reading about them.

“I’m so excited to work in the lab for practical sessions... It’s like we are living it to the fullest if we are trying something, doing it practical. More than theory.”

For students considering Biomedical Science in Australia, access to practical labs and real-world learning opportunities can play a huge role in making the course engaging and rewarding.

What Is Student Life in Brisbane Like for International Students?

Moving from India to Australia was also a cultural change for Manju. One of the biggest differences she noticed was the calm atmosphere in Brisbane and the sense of safety she feels while living there.

“Always choose Australia first because it’s very calm in here.”

She describes Australia as kind, peaceful, and welcoming, especially for international students trying to settle into a new environment.

Having supportive surroundings has helped her focus on her studies and personal goals while building confidence in herself.

Career Goals After Studying Biomedical Science

Manju’s dream career is ambitious, but she is determined to pursue it. Her goal is to become a surgeon one day, and she is realistic about the hard work required to get there.

“I want to be a surgeon. I know it’s very hard but I can do my best.”

She says the most important thing is trying wholeheartedly and not giving up on something you truly want.

Her passion for learning is clear throughout her story. She even admits she still keeps her school books from home because she genuinely loves studying and gaining knowledge.

Advice for International Students Thinking About ACU Australia

For students considering studying abroad, Manju’s message is simple: be brave enough to try.
