For Stefan, college has been more than a degree; it’s been a test of discipline, passion, and character. A civil engineering student and lifelong hockey player, he admits that balancing 6 a.m. practices with demanding coursework hasn’t been easy. But through the exhaustion and early mornings, he’s discovered something deeper than time management. He’s found resilience.
Originally drawn by the engineering programme and the chance to play NCAA hockey, Stefan’s journey to college was anything but straightforward. “It’s tough for hockey players,” he explains. “We play for years before college, and there aren’t many schools that offer both strong academics and a good hockey team.” But at King's College, Stefan found that rare combination — and a close-knit community that supported him both on and off the ice.
From designing a “clock within a clock” sculpture to raise funds for local charities, to discovering his favourite Mediterranean restaurant near campus, Stefan has built a life defined by purpose, friendship, and small joys. Most of all, he’s proud of the person he’s become. “Before I came here,” he laughs, “I didn’t even know how to use a laundry machine. Now, I can cook, manage my time, and carry myself with confidence.”
