When Mai first arrived in Ireland, she was fulfilling a dream she had carried since her undergraduate years in Vietnam. “SETU was my dream university when I was a senior student,” she said. “I love how practical the teaching is here and how warm and supportive the international environment feels for students like me.”
For Mai, moving to Ireland wasn’t just about studying abroad. It was about finding a place where she could grow personally and professionally, surrounded by people who shared her ambitions. “I love the international and global community at SETU, the cool weather, and the friendly people,” she added. “My lecturers are perfect for my dream [what I want to do].”

Mai is currently studying for a Master of Business in Finance and Business Analytics, a programme that combines her passion for data with her desire to make an impact in the business world. “I hope in the future I can work in data analytics or financial consulting to help businesses make smarter decisions,” she explained.
Her long-term goal is to use what she learns to start her own business one day. “I also have my own dream. I want to have a small business and learn how to apply financial structure to it,” she said. The programme at SETU gives her the tools to turn that dream into something real — blending financial strategy with analytical skills to solve real-world problems.
When she isn’t studying, Mai enjoys exploring Ireland’s scenery. “Whenever I have free time, I go to the beach or the mountains,” she said. “I love the cool weather here because in Vietnam it can reach 36 degrees, but in Ireland it’s usually around 25. I love it.”

Tramore Beach is only 10 minutes away from the SETU campus.
Adjusting to a new country can be challenging, especially when it comes to meeting people, but Mai says that SETU’s international office has made it easier. “At first, it was hard to find friends and connect with the new community, but SETU hosted many events for international students. They helped me meet new people and make friends,” she said.

Mai has also noticed how Ireland’s economy aligns with her career goals. “I know from the Financial Times that the tax in Ireland, especially for corporations, is very low. It’s convenient for companies to boost their business here,” she explained. “Ireland is known as a financial and technology hub, which makes it a great place to study and work.”
Her studies at SETU give her the chance to learn in an environment that reflects real business practices in one of Europe’s most dynamic economies.
Mai encourages other students who dream of studying abroad to take the leap. “Don’t be afraid to try something that seems far away at first,” she said. “With determination and courage, you can achieve much more than you can imagine.”

Mai carries a spirit of hope and entrepreneurship as she studies at SETU.
Her story shows that sometimes, the dream university you imagine from afar really can become a home — a place where new opportunities, friends, and experiences are waiting.
For students considering studying in Ireland, Mai’s experience highlights what makes South East Technological University stand out: a practical, career-focused education, a welcoming atmosphere, and a strong support system for international students.
