"As a final-year international student in the BA (Hons) in English and Psychology, I can confidently say that ATU Sligo has exceeded my expectations. I always dreamed of studying abroad, particularly in an English-speaking country, and Sligo stood out to me immediately. I love nature and a peaceful lifestyle, and Sligo offers the perfect balance. It’s a small town with breathtaking scenery, yet there’s always something to do, whether it’s visiting the cinema, hiking, or surfing. From the moment I arrived, I knew I had made the right choice.
The lecturers here are truly passionate and knowledgeable, and their dynamic teaching methods encourage engagement and creativity. I’ve had the opportunity to study fascinating subjects like Research Methods in Psychology, Biological Basis of Behaviour, Contemporary Irish Literature, and Cultural Studies, all of which have enriched my academic journey.
As an international student from Mexico, the warm, friendly atmosphere has made me feel right at home. I’ve made friends from all over the world, improved my English, and even met my partner here in Ireland. And, as a Student Ambassador and now Senior International Student Ambassador at ATU Sligo, I’ve been able to give back to the community while also growing both personally and professionally.

"For my first year as an international student, I feel that ATU was a great choice. Ever since applying, everyone has been super helpful and welcoming, making the start of my school year, which is definitely super stressful, a lot easier. With all the student activities, resources, meetings, and student body, I feel that I already have so much to look forward to this year, which makes me excited to come back. I have never been to a school that is so welcoming and encouraging.
I have already fallen in love with not just the school but also the town and country around me. I have always loved the idea of being able to walk everywhere, with Sligo being a small cozy town it is super easy to get everywhere on foot. I have also already done so much traveling and exploring since being here, such as day trips to places nearby such as Roses Point, Strandhill, and Galway, and taking up new hobbies such as surfing.
In general, coming here has gotten me out of my comfort zone, which I've personally really enjoyed as I feel it is good to try new things and mix things up from your usual routine. If you're nervous about trying new things and getting out of your comfort zone, ATU Sligo is a great place to start with the many benefits all around and how easy it is to get comfortable here! The country is also a gorgeous place, and I can't wait to see it more!
I am extremely excited to be a part of this program and see where it takes me, as well as see how much I grow as a person; meet new people, and all the new things I will learn!"

"When I was deciding on where to pursue my bachelor’s degree, I considered academic reputation, community and how far I want to develop myself as a person. Applying to ATU was not a bother at all, it was amazingly easy, everyone was attentive and helpful.
So far, I am happy about choosing ATU because I have had a wonderful experience. I have made a few kind friends. The lectures and modules are to my expectation because they are challenging, and I have learnt a lot. The lecturers do not make it hard for me to learn, and adapting to school life has been easy. Academically, I am in the right place.
I have joined various clubs and societies and enhanced my social skills; I am making new friends who have common interests. The people in Sligo are welcoming and vibrant, and they give a sense of community so within a few months, I will have a few more friends and I will feel more at home.
I am happy I took the big step to leave Uganda and see how things go around here, it has given me a broader way to look at things and has diversified my thoughts. I have also traveled around Sligo to a few spots like the Strandhill beach, Benbulben, Drumcliffe and I am yet to see more. Sligo town is so beautiful and serene, and I am more than humbled to be able to experience the life in Ireland. I am happy to be in Sligo. I was received with a happy face during my induction it gave me a warm feeling and I want other international students to feel the same way I did when they arrive here."

"Finishing up my program in Canada and coming abroad here to ATU Sligo to complete a final year here has been a very daunting, but enriching experience so far. Coming from Canada, I haven’t had much of a culture shock and in fact, I felt a little at home walking around town and taking in the sights.
Even though I finished a full college program before coming here, this is my first time being abroad so far and living out on my own so far from home. I’ve joined a few clubs in the school to distract me from that and have joined the Games Society, Swim Club and the Badminton Club. I never joined clubs at my previous school so I'm hoping I'll be able to balance them with my overall schoolwork.
I’m hopeful that my time here at ATU Sligo will be beneficial to my overall growth, regardless of if I end up being successful within my program. Being able to study in another country is a huge privilege that a lot of people don’t get the chance to, and I yearn to make the most of it."

“If you love art, you should go to Europe, if you are learning art, you must go to Europe.” I was told many times by my father when I was in my childhood. HERE I AM! I was so delightful having this opportunity studying at ATU in Ireland. It was a quite story for me to be here as a mature student through my life journey. I would like to say it made my family’s dream come true as my parents love art so much. It is no doubt that I was influenced by them deeply.
I felt so touched warmly by people here since I have landed in Ireland. I have been received greetings and smile from people when I walked in downtown Sligo. It makes me feel like in my hometown. I found another home despite my hometown being thousands of miles away.
Enjoy my studying time and expecting more inspirations that is my purpose here. To meet so many international classmates and friends would be another surprise for me! Wish all of us having a wonderful time together."

"I like hiking and had been to many different mountains to hike. I then fell in love with the nature unintentionally and wanted to do my best to protect it. There is not much choice of courses for me to choose in my country. So, I started looking for universities abroad and came across ATU Sligo which provides the perfect course for me with an affordable price.
This is my first time travelling abroad alone. I was worried about everything when I first got here. When the school starts, I was lucky enough to meet seniors from my home country and friends from all over the world who are willing to help me.
The lecturers here are super nice. They provide high emotional value to us which make us very comfortable when asking questions and have confidence when studying throughout the course. The course structure is interesting too as I was able to go on a field trip on the second day of school to learn about the environment around Sligo.
Sligo is a peaceful and nice town for me to study. I am sure that I will have a great time studying in ATU Sligo."

"I’ve started my academic journey at ATU Sligo not so long ago, and everyday has been an exciting journey since. I have always wanted to study abroad but wasn’t fully sure where it would land. I somehow stumbled across ATU Sligo which had the perfect degree course for me.
As an international student, I wasn’t sure how well I would adapt to a country 18 hours away from home. Luckily, I didn't have to face this difficult change alone. I’ve met some amazing local and international friends which have been a great help to reduce my homesickness.
The academic course here is challenging but also interesting as there are on-hand experiences for students to try out. The lecturers here are warm and welcoming which made me understand a lot better.
Overall, my current impression of ATU Sligo as an international student is nothing but the best. Even though Sligo is a small county, it is filled with stunning scenery and a vibrant community which lights up the place. I am sure my 3 years here will be filled with joy and thrills."
